Difference Between Permanent Magnet and Circuit Breaker

The circuit breaker must be powered with a power supply, which is an operating mechanism in another words. The operating mechanism can be understood as a component in the circuit breaker. We usually say that the vacuum circuit breaker generally takes use of the operating mechanism with spring. What is more, the operation of this circuit breaker is pulled by the spring of the mechanism. In recent years, there has been a new type of operating mechanism that uses the magnetic force of a magnet to operate a circuit breaker, which is referred to as a permanent magnet mechanism. With the permanent magnet mechanism, the permanent magnet circuit breaker comes into existence.

The operating mechanism of the circuit breaker is a mechanism of permanent magnet, which is not a mechanism of spring. As for the mechanism of spring, the movement of the circuit breaker is driven by the tension of the spring, and the energy of the spring is generally supplied by the motor.

Compared the mechanism of spring with the mechanism of  permanent magnet, the movement of force of the the permanent magnet circuit breaker is driven by the magnetic force of the magnet.

Terminologies of the Circuit Breaker and the Permanent Magnet Circuit Breaker

1. Make time
It refers to the time interval of the circuit breaker in the open position from the moment when the closing circuit is charged to the moment when the current in the first pole appears.

2. Closing time
It is the time interval of the circuit breaker is at opening position from the moment when the closing circuit is energized to the moment when the contacts of all electrodes are in contact.

3. Pre-arcing time
During the the operation of closing, it refers to the time interval from the moment at which the current appears at the first electrode to the moment when all electrodes are in contacts in three phases condition. Also, it can refer to the time interval from the movement when the electrode is in contact from the movement when it leaves.

4. Opening time
The opening time refers to the time interval from the moment the main current in circuit reaches the operating value of the release to the moment when all the electrodes are separated.

5. Break time
It refers to the time interval from the start of the opening to the end of the arcing time.

6. Open-close time (during auto-reclosing)
It is the time interval from the moment when all electrodes are separated to the moment when the first electrode is in contact during the auto-reclosing.

7. Dead time (during auto-reclosing)
It refers to the time interval from the extinction time in the opening to the moment when the current firstly reappears.

All in all, the distribution of the opening speed of the permanent magnet circuit breaker is more ideal. Compared with the mechanism of spring, the number of movable parts in the permanent magnet circuit breaker are greatly reduced, which greatly improves its reliability and mechanical life. Therefore, the permanent magnet circuit breakeris an ideal substitute for the circuit breaker which uses the mechanism of spring.
