The insulator that has been running on the power network for many years is inevitable to some extent dye. The accumulation of pollutants is particularly serious on the coastal area or nearby industrial emissions or main roads. Under humid conditions, such as fog or dew, the surface of the insulator is wet, which dissolves the soluble salt in the pollutants and forms a conductive film. The leakage current began to flow along the surface, and there were arc discharge and dry band formation.

This process can quickly enter the pollution flash, leading to the switching of the transmission line or a power station. The only requirement is the accumulation and wetness of pollution. In addition, due to the degree of pollution accumulation and wetness, the insulation performance is generally reduced in specific service areas. After pollution flashing on an insulator, adjacent insulators are likely to flash after the overlapping gate.
Therefore, once the pollution and flashing collaterals occur, the retraction will tend to fail, leading to a long period of power outage, that is, a serious threat to the stable operation of any power system.
In order to reduce the pollution flash accident, we provide multiple remedial measures, including:
1. Adjust the creepage distance to enhance insulation, mainly by increasing the number of discs in the string or using so-called "anti-pollution insulators", which in China usually consist of double or triple aerodynamic sheds on each disc composition;
2. Increasing the frequency of washing, it is mainly equipped with a wire, and you can also use manual cleaning the line to power out;

3. Apply porcelain and glass surface or silicone rubber composite insulator with thin water sparse materials.
