Switches installed on outdoor poles in 10kV overhead power distribution lines are used in suburban and rural power distribution networks as mechanical switching equipment for breaking, closing and carrying line load current and fault current. Pole mounted switch is generally composed of switch body with sensor+FTU (feeder automation terminal).

Classified by breaking capacity:
a. Pole mounted disconnector: it can not make or break normal load current, and has obvious fracture, which is used to isolate line maintenance
b. Pole mounted load switch: the switchgear that can make, bear and break the normal load current (≤ 630A) and can bear but not break the fault current.
c. Pole mounted circuit breaker: switchgear capable of making, carrying and breaking normal load current (≤ 630A) and fault current (≥ 20kA).
d. Pole mounted fuse: it can break short circuit current and protect lines

Arc extinguishing mode: vacuum arc extinguishing, SF6 arc extinguishing, oil arc extinguishing (eliminated)
Insulation mode: air insulation, SF6 gas insulation, composite insulation, oil insulation (eliminated)

Classified according to the controller:
A. Boundary type switch: built-in zero sequence transformer, with zero sequence protection function, and equipped with load switch or circuit breaker
b. Voltage type load switch: it can automatically open and close according to the changes of line voltage on both sides
c. Centralized load switch: it can not actively break the short circuit current

SF6 insulating gas is a colorless, tasteless, non-toxic, nonflammable gas with electrical insulation and arc extinguishing characteristics. Its density is 5 times that of air and is not easy to leak.
