The role of the Load Break Switch

A load break switch is a  switch that has been designed to provide making or breaking of specified currents.

1. Open and close cooperation.

Since it has a certain arc extinguishing capacity, it can be used to open and close load currents and overload currents of less than a certain multiple (usually 3-4 times); it can also be used to open and close no-load transformers with a larger capacity than that allowed by the isolation switch, longer no-load lines, and sometimes also used to open and close large-capacity capacitor banks.

2. Replacement role.

Load break switch and current-limiting fuse series combination can be used instead of circuit breakers. That is, the load switch is responsible for opening and closing less than a certain number of times the overload current, while the current-limiting fuse is responsible for opening and closing the larger overload current and short-circuit current.

3. Load break switch and current-limiting fuse series combination into one load switch, in the national standards known as “load switch – fuse combination appliances”. The fuse can be installed on the power side of the load break switch, or on the receiving side of the load break switch. When it is not necessary to change the fuse frequently, it is appropriate to use the former arrangement so that the load break switch can be used as a disconnecting switch to isolate the voltage added to the current-limiting fuse.
