Heat Shrink Termination Kit: A Reliable Solution for Cable Connections

2025-12-25

In power transmission, communication network construction and electrical connection systems of industrial machinery, cable termination processing is crucial for ensuring the safe and stable operation of the entire system. Improper termination can lead to insulation failure, leakage, short circuits and other faults, even causing equipment damage or safety accidents. Heat Shrink Termination Kit, as an efficient and reliable cable termination solution, is widely used in medium and low voltage cable (usually 0.6/1kV to 35kV) termination scenarios due to its excellent electrical insulation, tight waterproof sealing and easy installation, becoming a preferred product in power, communication, industrial and other fields.

It is an integrated prefabricated kit. Its core working principle is to heat heat-shrinkable polymer materials to shrink and fit tightly on key parts such as cable insulation layer, shielding layer and conductor, thus simultaneously achieving four core functions: insulation isolation, waterproof sealing, moisture and dust proofing, and mechanical protection. Its key components have clear roles: heat-shrinkable insulation tubes, mostly made of high-performance materials like cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or modified polyolefin, provide high insulation resistance and excellent mechanical strength, serving as the core insulation barrier; stress control tubes improve electric field distribution at cable terminations, inhibiting local electric field concentration and avoiding insulation aging or breakdown; sealing tubes and waterproof glue form double protection, with heat-shrinkable sealing tubes tightly wrapping cables after heating and hot-melt glue filling gaps for reliable waterproofing in humid and harsh environments; conductor connection terminals match cable conductor material (copper or aluminum) and cross-sectional specifications, enabling low-resistance and high-strength connection between conductors and equipment terminals through crimping; auxiliary accessories like cleaning cloths, sandpaper and insulation tape support cable surface treatment and installation details.

Its working principle comes from the "memory effect" of heat-shrinkable materials: during production, they undergo cross-linking to form a stable molecular structure, then radially expand and shape under specific conditions, staying in an unstable expanded state. When heated to 110℃-160℃, molecular chains shrink back to the original shape before expansion, tightly wrapping cable termination parts to form a solid combination. Compared with traditional solutions like cold-shrink terminations and porcelain sleeve terminations, it has significant advantages: higher cost-effectiveness with lower material and construction costs in medium and low voltage scenarios; easy installation requiring only a regular heat gun, low technical requirements for constructors, and single-person operation to shorten construction time; excellent insulation and sealing with gapless fit to isolate moisture, dust, oil and corrosive media; reliable mechanical protection with shrinkable protective layer resisting stretching, impact and wear; wide applicability matching various insulation cables (PVC, XLPE, PE) and covering multiple industries.

Its main application fields include: power distribution systems for medium and low voltage cable terminations in residential areas, factory workshops and municipal lighting to connect cables with power equipment; communication network projects for processing coaxial and telephone cable terminations in base station construction and indoor wiring to ensure signal stability; industrial machinery for cable terminations of motors, inverters and PLC control cabinets to withstand high temperature, vibration and oil pollution; building and rail transit for termination needs in high-rise building wiring, subway power supply and airport distribution meeting fire safety requirements; outdoor and underground projects like street lamp cables and pipeline heating cables relying on strong waterproof performance. For selection, focus on cable specifications, application environment conditions, conductor material and certification standards. Before installation, cut off power and discharge cables. During installation, standardize cable cleaning, uniform heating and terminal crimping. After installation, conduct insulation resistance testing to ensure long-term safe operation of cable systems.
